Raja Narayan Deb Radio Bangla Net Raja Narayan Deb Raja Narayan Deb He hails from the royal family of Shovabazar, though a passing glance at Raja Narayan Deb would make one believe that he is more of a devoted academician who does the daily rounds of College Street and Coffee House. Few would identify him as an ace music composer whose handiwork has left the audience impressed in films like Abahomaan, Dosar, Khela and others. Deb, however, regrets that even after stamping his class in nearly 15 films, many of which are that of Rituparno Ghosh, people mostly identify Bhooter Bhabisyat (BB) as his 'debut'. Earlier to BB, Deb had arranged music for Neel Dutt in The Bong Connection and Anupam Roy in Baishe Sraban and Hemlock Society. On whether the intellectual tag has been a deterrent in getting more mainstream work, Deb says, 'I have done several shows with Usha Uthup and have scored several tracks for Jeet Gannguli. Deb scores a track according to the situation in the film. He has no song bank, unlike many of today's music directors who insert their pre-composed tracks later in films. 'Maybe that's a reason why my compositions are inseparable from the film and aren't standalone hits,' Deb reasons. Many are unaware that Deb was supposed to compose three songs for Sujoy Ghosh's Kahaani. He had to let it go as the dates clashed with BB. 'It was me who had suggested using Rabindranath Tagore's Ekla Chalo Re in the film. But Vishal-Sekhar, declined to work jointly with me in Kahaani' claims Deb. About his lack of celebrity status, Deb says, 'I don't need fans around me and that's why I can take the Metro everyday to work.
