I had an interesting conversation last week with Rachel Meeks with Gainesville Regional Utility, a municipally-owned power company that provides most of the electric power to a population of 1,150,000 in north-central Florida.
Ms. Meeks informed me that they are now accepting proposals for systems for 2014. The annual four megawatt quota for 2009 through 2013 have already been allotted, though she indicated there might be some who drop out for various reasons, ranging from not being able to pull projects together to changes in the FIT rate, which is going to be readjusted to compensate for slowed economic activity in the region.

"GRU and the city of Gainesville are very supportive of solar systems, and we're encouraged that TutoringZone is one of a number of companies that have chosen to install a system," said Rachel Meek, commercial analyst with GRU.

Rachel Meek, supervisor for Gainesville Regional Utilities' float, said it's been in the works for seven weeks. She said it's tough recruiting help because many work eight hours a day before volunteering to help. "I'm ready for it to be over," she said with a laugh."I'm tired." The theme of GRU's float centers on providing water to Gators for 100 years.Meek said the float has one of UF's first buildings, Buckman Hall, on one side and Gainesville's historic water-pumping station, Boulware Springs Waterworks, on the other side.
