According to Philip Meskin, ...
According to Philip Meskin, founder of the Veteran's Party, the treatment meted out to Shine exactly parallels the treatment of Veterans after all American wars since Vietnam .
"Same old business as usual," he
, added that, "300,000 veterans died after the Vietnam War of Agent Orange and other diseases related to cancer, cell degenerative conditions, and other undefined causes.
"They were depressed, too," he
Social workers are notorious for rendering opinions that deny benefits to veterans based on such causes as 'depression.' "There are no limits to what they will do to cut costs.
They let people die every day," said Meskin

Phillip Meskin, the company clerk for the St. Petersburg-based Veterans Party, visited Spring Hill Wednesday to inform vets about his political party. The Veterans Party of America, Meskin said, is the newest on the block, nominating candidates to challenge Republicans, Democrats and Independents on federal, state, and local levels."Ten percent of the nation's population are veterans," Meskin told an audience of 200 Wednesday night at the Veterans of Foreign War Post No. 10209, 15166 Spring Hill Drive."And only four and a half percent of representatives in Congress are veterans," Meskin added."If they truly honored us, why are there not more veterans in office?"Meskin said the Veterans Party, and the candidates they nominate for office, focuses on protecting veterans' retirement pay, as well as the interests of senior citizens, which include Medicare and prescription plans."We focus certain issues, like concurrent receipt," Meskin said."But that should've been done 25 years ago."Meskin was referring to a new law created in December 2003, which grants military retirees both retired pay and Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) disability compensation as the DVA offset is phased out. Before, the DVA offset reduced the amount of a retiree's pay by an amount equal to any disability payment received by the DVA, according to the Department of Defense's finance and accounting service.Meskin said that if elected officials from the Veterans Party were in office years ago, veterans would have received concurrent receipt sooner. He added that the Veterans Administration has tallied about 34 million Americans who have served, are currently serving in the armed forces, or are retirees."For every person in that 34 million, add one spouse," Meskin said."That's 68 million potential voters, just from your (veterans and senior citizens) groups."However, several audience members expressed their displeasure with Meskin's presentation. Some VFW members told him that they're all aware of the statistics, and asked Meskin what the Veterans Party can do for them.Meskin said that he wasn't there "to give them answers" but a way "to solve the problems" in the community. He admitted that "getting vets organized is like nailing Jell-O to the wall."Several vets asked him if the national office of the Veterans Party would come in to Hernando County and finance them if they could get a local group organized.Meskin said the national office would."You need only four members for the executive committee: chairman, vice-chairman, secretary and treasurer," Meskin said."Political parties cost nothing to start in Florida."He added that people could go to the Supervisor of Elections office tomorrow and register their executive committee under the Veterans Party affiliation."You can be up and running by Friday," Meskin said.
