"This debt service reduction allows every school to have the opportunity to grow without the burden of additional debt," says longtime Buford city school board member Philip Beard.
"For a small school system like ours, it makes a big difference in our ability to continue to grow and to meet the changes of our students.Our school system, which voted to remain independent years ago, is about 2 percent of the size of Gwinnett County's school system.The SPLOST funding has been critical to our success."
While the use and management of the 1997 SPLOST funds is impressive, it is crucial that future county educational needs continue to be met.The current SPLOST funding expires in 2002.
