Phil Gioia
Phil Gioia brings four decades of experience, from a career spanning investment banking, venture capital and technology, and national defense and intelligence to his role with Sobel Communications. Across all these sectors, he developed a skill set enabling the elegant conveyance of the right message, to the right audience, at the right time.
He is a former public official, and was twice elected to the Town Council in his home town of Corte Madera, California, serving twice as the town's Mayor. He has served on several boards an commissions in Marin County.
As a former Eagle Scout, Phil's non-profit activities have included regional service on Boy Scout boards, on both the East and West Coasts. He is also currently active in activities supporting our troops who have been wounded in the ongoing actions in Ira and Afghanistan.
A graduate of the Virginia Military Institute, Phil saw action during two tours in Vietnam as an Infantry small unit leader, rifle company commander, and in special operations units. He received a number of decorations for his combat actions, is a holder of the Combat Infantryman's Badge, and is a former Master Parachutist, Ranger and Pathfinder.
Like Brian, Phil is a military historian. A former Lecturer in History at the United States Military Academy, he is frequent commentator on television's History Channel and the Military Channel.
He hold graduate degrees from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, and the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University.

A recent speaker was Phil Gioia, a naval historian who consults for the History Channel and who spoke on the rescue of the submarine Squalus back in 1939. Phil had the audience mesmerized.
But, Gioia could not hold a candle to the speaker who followed two weeks later.
