ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA, November 6, 2008 - The Accepted Practices Exchange, a program of the Convention Industry Council (CIC), announces the appointment of their newest Commissioners, Teri Tonioli, CMP of Experient and Phil Cavanagh of Staples.
Cavanagh leads the events team at Staples, Inc., the world's largest office products company which serves businesses of all sizes and consumers in 27 countries throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. Cavanagh joined Staples in 2004. Prior to that, he headed the events teams at AOL Time Warner and America Online for 4 years after a 15-year career on both the property and corporate level at Marriott International. His career has allowed this New York City native to work throughout North America, Southeast Asia, Australia, Western Europe and West Africa.
Cavanagh is a member of MPI recently completing a term on the New England chapter's Board of Directors. Prior to joining the APEX Commission, Cavanagh was an avid supporter of APEX. He states, "We integrated the APEX RFPs into our event planning process about a year ago, and then integrated the Toolbox with our event team. We utilize the single facility format the most and use it for a variety of programs from smaller training meetings to city-wide programs. To date we have issued the RFP to all of the major US hotel chains and to a multitude of CVBs. We also utilize the Post Event Report and have rolled out the Event Specification Guide."
APEX Commission Chair, Terri Breining, said, "I'm very excited to have both Teri and Phil join the commission.
Phil's experience as a planner for two international Fortune 500 companies, as well as his integration of the APEX practices and tools for several years will serve the commission and will help us communicate the benefits of APEX to other corporate planning departments."
