Phillip W. Barnett Vice President, Education Phil is a former Vice President of Education for the LES (USA & Canada), and is past-Chair of the Energy/Chemicals/Materials Committee. He also served as project leader for the development and launch of the Certified Licensing Professional Program. Currently, Phil is Managing Director for Intellectual Property Management, Risk Research, and Strategic Projects in the Knowledge Services Organization (KSO) of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. He has worked most recently to implement new knowledge management business processes inside PwC that drive high performance in professional client services. He is especially focused on performance measures for the key areas of IP value, professional education, methodology evolution, and recognition and reward that link specifically to client satisfaction and brand recognition. Phil also serves PwC clients globally, helping them improve performance and competitiveness in the areas of intellectual asset management and knowledge management.
Phil began his career in research at The Dow Chemical Company, where working with an innovative team of business, technical, and legal professionals, he helped pioneer and commercialize a number of new knowledge management methods applied to intellectual property, new product development, and licensing. Phil joined PwC as Director in the Intellectual Asset Management Practice of Financial Advisory Services in Chicago, and has worked in client service on a number of domestic and international projects for Tax, Assurance, and Advisory Services.
He earned Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from Stephen F. Austin University, Texas.

Phil Barnett is currently serving as the LES Vice President for Education. He has been active in LES since 1990, first in Committee Leadership for the Chemicals, Environmental, and Materials (CEMC) Industry Sector, and then as Trustee for the Professional Development Series. He has participated in several international conferences, and is a frequent invited speaker on topics in intellectual asset management and licensing. He has been both a content contributor and faculty participant for the Society's successful Professional Development Series, and co-chaired several LES meeting program offerings.
He is currently Operations Director for the Knowledge Services Organization (KSO) of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (USA) where he manages organizational development and special projects relating to PwC's critical internal knowledge and intellectual asset management business processes. He also manages key shared services across the KSO's functional departments. He has spent the last year working with the managing partner and his leadership to create a new consolidated research function, as well as new editorial and content management functions within PwC's large Information Services Group. Phil continues to advise PwC partners and clients in the areas of process performance improvement relating to intellectual asset management, IP valuation, IP-related audit, market research and new product development.
Phil joined LES while serving The Dow Chemical Company in Midland, Michigan as Intellectual Asset Manager for the Epoxy Products and Intermediates Business. He also managed IAM for the Polyurethane Chemicals Business. He held several positions in research and technical service/new product development before joining Dow's IAM group. He received both BS and MS degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University, Texas. Phil and Elaine currently reside in Tampa, FL.
