Dr. Peter Silverman Chair
A professional journalist since 1974, Peter is internationally recognized, and a winner of 7 awards. He started at Global TV as a reporter covering a variety of beats: labor, Queen's Park, military and terrorism. He was also the host writer for Code 10-78, a half hour reconstruction of unsolved crimes. In 1981, Peter left Global to join the "CityNews" business segment CityBiz and became Ombudsman "Silverman Helps", in 1989. He is the author of Who Speaks for the Children Commemorating the International Year of the Child and wrote Voices of a Lost Generation, focusing on child welfare. Peter was also editor of Angola Story of a Revolt and one time editor of the Journal Race London England. Prior to being a journalist, Peter was a senior advertising executive in London, England and Toronto. He has also had experience as an entrepreneur, and was at one time the deputy director of the Institute of Race Relations, London. In 2008, he was appointed to the Order of Ontario.

A journalist since 1974, Peter started at Global TV as a reporter covering a variety of beats; labour, Queens Park, military and terrorism. He was also the host writer for Code 10-78, a half hour reconstruction of unsolved crimes. Peter also acted as a freelance print journalist, covering a variety of subjects ranging from policing, terrorism, labour, military and strategic affairs and social policy issues. In 1981, Peter left Global to join the "City Pulse" business segment City Biz and became Ombudsman "Silverman Helps", in 1989. He is the author of "Who Speaks for the Children?", commemorating the International Year of the Child and wrote "Voices of a Lost Generation", focusing on child welfare. Peter was also editor of "Angola Story of a Revolt" and one time editor of "The Institute of the Journal Race", London England.
Peter was/is; Captain in the British Para Engineers ('57-'62) serving in Middle and Far East; member of the British Airborne Forces Association; Chairperson for the Canadian Organization for Rainforest Conservation and Tropical Education; Board member for Ve'Ahavta - The Canadian Jewish Humanitarian Relief Committee; An Advisory Board Member for the Canadian Juno D-Day Project -- creation of a memorial for the Canadians who landed in France on D-Day 1994; and one time Chairperson for Aphasia Centre. He volunteers to work in third world countries on projects ranging from rewiring a hospital to building bridges in Central America, the Caribbean and Africa. He has been everything from an advertising executive, construction foreman to entrepreneur and university lecturer.
Peter joined the Habitat board of directors December 2001.

In 1994 he was awarded a Toronto Police Citation for his work in exposing a major computer fraud operation. Most recently he was honoured by the Lieutenant Governor with the Order of Ontario.
