Peter Shackelford has a vast amount of "hands on" experience in various renewable energy technologies, and he has been in this business for over three decades. In the early 1980's Peter installed the electrical infrastructure for the first wind farm in the state at Kahua Ranch in Kohala. Further work at Kahua Ranch included managing daily operations of the 3.4 MW wind farm and working as a technician and then manager for the University of Hawaii, Hawaii Natural Energy Institute's Wind Energy Storage Test (WEST) facility. In 1992, as a senior engineering technician with the Pacific International Center for High Technology Research (PICHTR), Peter operated the Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) power plant at Natural Energy Lab at Keahole Point. With PICHTR in 1996, he designed two village scale power renewable energy power systems utilizing wind, PV, battery and diesel genset technologies. The 100 KW system installed at Nabouwalu village in Fiji was one of the largest stand-alone renewable energy systems ever built. In 1997, recognizing the growing demand for reliable renewable energy, Peter began focusing on Renewable Energy Services, Inc full-time.
