South Shore Community Action Council, Inc's President, Dan Shannon, also presented the Steven Braz President's Award to Peter Holden and Andrea Holleran for Extraordinary Leadership on behalf of Jordan Hospital's Healthy Plymouth.
Represented by Peter Holden, President and Andrea Holleran,
Peter Holden joined Jordan Hospital as the President and CEO in November 2007.
Previously, he was president and CEO of Caritas Holy Family Hospital in Methuen and Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton.
Over the years, Peter
and Andrea have used a creative, community-oriented
For example, in 2011, Peter joined Plymouth Public Schools Superintendent, Gary Maestas, on a 600-mile DreamRide, biking from Washington DC to Plymouth to raise funds supporting education in Plymouth.
Thanks to Peter
and Andrea's vision, leadership, and collaborative spirit, Jordan Hospital currently partners with the Town of Plymouth, SSCAC
, and a number of other community leaders on an initiative called Healthy Plymouth funded by a Mass in Motion grant from the Department of Public Health
The Mass in Motion Municipal Wellness and Leadership Program supports the Town of Plymouth and 53 other Massachusetts cities and towns in their efforts to implement multi-faceted policies and strategies aimed at promoting nutrition, healthy eating, and active living.
For the low-income people served by SSCAC
, affordability and accessibility of nutritious foods is often an obstacle to overall health and well-being.
This is particularly true for low income children and the elderly who are the most vulnerable to poor health outcomes due to malnutrition.
As we know, and as Peter
and Andrea know, a collaborative, community-based response represents our best efforts at fighting hunger.
