Peter Eastman, director of human resources at Lehigh Regional Medical Center, said he is seeing more applicants with less experience hoping to get a foot in the door in a health-related career.
"It's especially true of the jobs that require less training," Eastman said. Phlebotomy certification, for example, requires 50 hours of classroom training. "People know that health care jobs are in demand and they want to get back to work quickly, but now there is an oversupply in some areas."
Other positions where supply may be outstripping demand include pharmacy technicians and certified nursing assistants, Eastman said.
Demand remains stronger for careers that require more education, such as registered nurses, but Eastman said employers must carefully balance how many workers with limited experience they can bring on.
