For the 2008-2009 school year, the members of the Board of Trustees are as follows: Chairperson Ellen Forrest, Vice Chair David Dickman, Michael Clark, John Loester, Eugene Matalene, and Peri Sue Zausner
Peri Sue Zausner
From her early school days volunteering to work with handicapped children at AHRC and the Rusk Institute to now as head of the Peri Sue Zausner Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Mrs. Zausner has devoted endless time, abundant energy, and a fiery passion to improve the lives of the less fortunate and to causes in which she believes.
Peri has always lived her life hoping to leave this world a better place than when she arrived.
Mrs. Zausner loves working with children.
She taught Playing it Safe, a child safety program sponsored by the Nassau District Attorney's Office; she once served as the assistant director of the Police Athletic League; she has coached in youth soccer leagues; and when a curfew was put in place on Halloween she organized a community Halloween party for 1,500 kids at the high school because she felt no child should grow up without Halloween.Mrs. Zausner has always been troubled by injustice so she became involved in politics, and was elected a Democratic Committeewoman in 1987.She continues to be active in the party, and was awarded Committee Woman of the Year in 2006.
When she felt her village was unresponsive to the needs of its resident she formed the Port North Civic Association, and eventually became President of the General Council of Homeowners, encompassing all the civic associations.
This has allowed her to work closely with Supervisor Kaiman and other officials in the Town of North Hempstead, as well as Nassau County and New York State.
Additionally, Mrs. Zausner serves on the boards of Community Chest and Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington.Mrs. Zausner was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2002.
Rather than letting it derail her, she has aggressively fought back and has been cancer-free for the past three years.
Never wanting anyone else to go through what she went through, she started her foundation to find a cure for genetic cancers.
Mrs. Zausner has served on the Board of Directors at Vincent Smith School for close to a decade in various positions including treasurer.
Two generations of Mrs. Zausner's family have attended Vincent Smith with her youngest son Alex graduating in 2003.
The meeting, which was emceed by Peri Zausner of the General Council of Homeowners Associations of Port Washington, was opened by a question as to what the board of education was doing to prevent a situation, which occurred in the Roslyn school system.
Peri Sue Zausner and Janet Orloff are challenging them for the trustee positions , running on the New Millennium Party line.
Ms. Zausner and Orloff wanted a full environmental impact statement on the property.
Peri also represents Port North as vice president of the General Council of PW Homeowners , where she has also been a member of the Committee for Responsible Development.Zausner , a Soundview Democratic Committee person , has represented citizens for many years.Deeply involved in civic and environmental affairs , Ms. Zausner has worked closely with local legislators and other elected officials in the Town of North Hempstead. She spearheaded the campaign for timely , responsible development in the PW peninsula.A member of Residents for a More Beautiful PW , Ms. Zausner has been affiliated with many environmental groups.Ms. Zausner attended Skidmore College , the Art Students' League , and the Fashion Institute of Technology , and is an award-winning multi-media artist. She lives with her husband Fred and their two sons , both PW high school students , Alex , 14 , and Eric , 18.They have lived in Port North for over 18 years.LongIsland.com LogoAn Official Newspaper of the
