...
Peri Sue Zausner
From her early school days volunteering to work with handicapped children at AHRC and the Rusk Institute to now as head of the Peri Sue Zausner Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Mrs. Zausner has devoted endless time, abundant energy, and a fiery passion to improve the lives of the less fortunate and to causes in which she believes. Peri has always lived her life hoping to leave this world a better place than when she arrived.
Mrs. Zausner loves working with children. She taught Playing it Safe, a child safety program sponsored by the Nassau District Attorney's Office; she once served as the assistant director of the Police Athletic League; she has coached in youth soccer leagues; and when a curfew was put in place on Halloween she organized a community Halloween party for 1,500 kids at the high school because she felt no child should grow up without Halloween. Mrs. Zausner has always been troubled by injustice so she became involved in politics, and was elected a Democratic Committeewoman in 1987. She continues to be active in the party, and was awarded Committee Woman of the Year in 2006. When she felt her village was unresponsive to the needs of its resident she formed the Port North Civic Association, and eventually became President of the General Council of Homeowners, encompassing all the civic associations. This has allowed her to work closely with Supervisor Kaiman and other officials in the Town of North Hempstead, as well as Nassau County and New York State. Additionally, Mrs. Zausner serves on the boards of Community Chest and Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington.
Mrs. Zausner was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2002. Rather than letting it derail her, she has aggressively fought back and has been cancer-free for the past three years. Never wanting anyone else to go through what she went through, she started her foundation to find a cure for genetic cancers.
Mrs. Zausner has served on the Board of Directors at Vincent Smith School for close to a decade in various positions including treasurer. Two generations of Mrs. Zausner's family have attended Vincent Smith with her youngest son Alex graduating in 2003.

"We are concerned that 250 people will mean 250 cars," said Peri Zausner, president of the Port Washington North Civic Association."We don't really see this as easing our lives at all, but as a major hindrance ...I think the scope is way too massive for this area."

The project may get tied up in court soon because the village's industrial association, whose members own businesses near the rezoned property, said it intends to challenge the rezoning in a lawsuit.
"Any type of residential zoning will be damaging to our businesses, because we will have people looking into our backyards," said Gould Ryder, general manager of Thomson Industries Inc.
