Peggy Hunt
...
Peggy has always loved using her hands and spent her childhood snipping and sewing her mother's old leather gloves to create miniature tack for her model horses. Her fascination with doing precise work and her love of animals led to a career as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with special interest in surgery.
After a decade in practice, she spent twenty years weaving, spinning, dyeing, beading, fusing, and sewing. During one stage, she created award-winning garments resembling marine organisms that are identifiable to genus and species. She developed techniques for repurposing unusual and unexpected materials such as stainless steel yarn developed for aerospace applications.
Peggy recently began fashioning jewelry from salvaged bike tubes. She gathers the spent tubes from local bicycle shops and scrubs them thoroughly, then cuts, folds, twists, layers and compresses them, and adds additional elements to create distinctive jewelry.
