Staff writer Peg Quann received a first-place award in the Environmental Writing Portfolio category for her stories on Drexel University students working in the Pinelands to track wildlife on an Air Force gunnery range; how New Jersey is controlling mosquitoes with the use of tiny crustaceans; and the potential for land erosion in the Garden State (and Burlington County in particular) as water levels rise.
In the Education Writing Portfolio category, Quann earned second-place honors for stories about special education services in Burlington County; the state licensing exam testing that took place in Burlington County for 800 cosmetology students from across New Jersey; and how the Sight for Students program, providing free eye health services to youngsters in need, helps children become better students.
