Dr. Paula Leoni-Bacchus, Director of Content Development.Dr. Paula Leoni-Bacchus has learned on a first-hand basis about the needs of both ELLs and their teachers.She brings over ten years of experience teaching English Language Learners in a variety of settings, including 5 years as an ESL and Spanish secondary teacher in the Denver Public Schools, to the Course Crafters staff.Paula received her Ph.D. from Teachers College, Columbia University where she supervised student teachers during their placements in the New York City public schools.She also worked in the NYC public school system as a professional development collaborator for NCREST, supporting teachers in the integration of technology with their curriculum and instruction.Most recently, she was the Assistant Director of Bilingual Education in Framingham, MA, where she was involved in many of the decisions made in purchasing instructional materials and providing quality programs to meet the educational needs of ELLs in the district.Paula is a fluent speaker of Spanish, with a B.A. in Spanish and a Ph.D. in Languages and Literature with a major in the Teaching of Spanish.She has studied and taught school abroad-both in Mexico and Panama-and Paula's own research in Dual Language education has brought to the forefront her bilingual proficiency and curriculum development expertise.As an Adjunct Professor for the School of Education at Lesley University, Paula teaches a course on first and second language acquisition designed for teachers who work with a student population that includes ELLs.In this context, she has learned how to demonstrate and translate theory into application for both ESL and mainstream classroom instruction.She has also worked on several projects as an educational consultant, developing materials, online courses, and e-learning tools.She currently represents TESOL as the content leader for the ESL module hosted on the NCTE CoLearn web site.Contact
