August 2004: Paula Coopwood
The Heart & Soul of a Community Arts Event: For more than 23 years, Paula Coopwood
has been an active volunteer for The Austin Fine Arts Festival (formerly Fiesta at Laguna Gloria).With her
carries the event's history, yet she
is most valued for her
ability to constantly bring new ideas and energy to the table.What makes her
unique is that after 23 years and more than 11,500 volunteer hours, she
is still an enthusiastic hands-on volunteer for the arts.Throughout the years, her
volunteer efforts have helped raise more than $2 million for the Austin Museum of Art
In addition to raising funds, Paula's dedication has made The Austin Fine Arts Festival one of the top 5 art festivals in Texas-helping emerging artists to promote their work and expose hundreds of thousands of Central Texans to new artists from around the nation.Paula has served as a committee chairman of almost every festival committee-(there are more than 15 committees in all) and was the Festival Chairman in 1998, 2003, 2004-a record-breaking number.As a festival leader, Paula is often called upon to handle conflict resolution and make the tough decisions that ultimately shape the future of the organization.Paula
is known to lead by example-a quality that has earned her
the respect and trust of the entire festival volunteer core.She

While others talk of making a difference or changing the world, Paula Coopwood
gets up and does it.In addition to the arts, Paula
is also very active in other areas of the community.She is a member of the Travis County Medical Alliance where she was a board member for several terms.She also serves on several committees including; Healthfest and Call a Doctor and was 1995/96 President.In addition, she is a member of The Settlement Home, a residential treatment center and foster home agency for children since 1995.She has also served on several committees at the Aqua Festival of Austin from 1988-1995, as well with the Junior League of Austin from 1991 - 2001.Paula Coopwood's
