We are also updating the website, updating Facebook, alerting you where ever you're at" said Paul Wetzl, My Valley Weather chief meteorologist.

Wetzl said when severe weather hits, the weather team will be streaming live on myvalleyweather.com so that what viewers are watching online will be the same thing as what's on the air.
...
Wetzl said the team uses reports from viewers to inform other viewers about what's happening.
"When we are in a severe weather event, we rely on those storm reports coming in. They are letting us know whether the wind is strong in certain locations, they are letting us know if it's raining hard or if there is hail in a specific location across the viewing area," Wetzl said.

"We are very pleased to have purchased and now have the capability of using dual pol Doppler radar," said My Valley Weather chief meteorologist Paul Wetzl.

...
The process is very technical and Wetzl explained it this way:
...
"We are going to get reflectivity values back and one's called differential reflectivity and the other is called differential phase," Wetzl said.

With temperatures beginning their plunge to frigid conditions, and ice quickly forming over snow melt, Myvalleyweather.com meteorologist Paul Wetzl nonetheless says the valley appears poised to miss the worst case scenario this storm could have brought to our area.

"We are pretty lucky this storm took the path it did. Best case scenario for us. I still think that the Lake Effect will 'bomb' some spots pretty good by mid-week with a couple of feet or so. I am also concerned tonight with the icing as temperatures are falling very fast and the wind is picking up," says Wetzl.
Paul's newest estimate is 1-3" of snow accumulation Sunday night, with 2-5" additional accumulation Monday. Those unfortunate enough to find themselves under persistant Lake Effect snow bands could see much, much more.
There is also some good news on the wind front, though by no means are we escaping significant blowing and drifting. Paul says, "The wind won't be as strong as it looked a few days ago.
...
Paul says the upper level wind shifts needed for Lake Effect will take place overnight in the morning hours of Monday.
