Paul Warner directs and writes multi-disciplinary film and theatre which explore socio-politically driven themes, drawing upon international cultural perspectives. He most recent project is a new dance theatre opera, Women: The War Within by Du Yun (composer), Matthew Maguire (librettist), and Warner, which was first developed at The Baryshnikov Arts Center where he was awarded a 2013 Princess Grace Foundation Works-In-Process residency fellowship. The production will premiere at La Mama Theatre. Additionally, Warner has directed over fifty theatre and film productions, including the award-winning short In the Name of The Father, (a Sundance Film Festival selection) followed by his first feature Fall Time (Lionsgate), starring Mickey Rourke and David Arquette, which premiered in competition at The Sundance Film Festival.

In 2014, The LGBTQ Academy of Recording Arts commissioned Warner to direct the 25th anniversary of the OUTmusic Awards in New York City, hosted by Lea Delaria, and subsequent documentary, For Which We Stand (featuring Melissa Etheridge, Dolly Parton, and Chely Wright), celebrating the impact of groundbreaking recording artists in the LGBTQ equality movement.

Warner is grateful for ongoing support from the Princess Grace Foundation, beginning with an Artistic Associate fellowship at New York's 2nd Stage Theatre, followed by a Statue Award, and subsequently, the BAC Works-in-Process grant. He is an alumnus of the Drama League Directors Project as a Fall Directing Fellow and the recipient of a Cite-Read grant to collaborate with screenwriter Mauricio Zacharias (Love is Strange) on a new translation of Nelson Rodrigues' Wedding Dress--Warner's Los Angeles production garnered seven Drama-Logue Awards, including best direction. He is equally passionate about collaborating with playwrights and composers in the development of new plays, including the world premiere of Mercury by Gary Sunshine, produced by Eve Ensler (HERE), Katie Ford's Out In America (Westbeth) as well as music and movement driven interpretations of classics, such as his and composer Peter Melnick's rendition of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night and their original chamber opera, Chinese Cabaret (Peter Sellars' Los Angeles Theatre Festival). Warner has assisted a range of notable mentors including Robert Wilson (the CIVIL warS), Daniel Melnick (President of Columbia), and Ed Zwick (Glory/The Siege).
