That scrutiny, Martin says, involves looking at IT as a business enabler, not a cost center.
"We haven't slowed down; we're driving business-process change," Martin says.
"This company's history has not been one in investing in technology.
It was basically maintaining a utility.
Two and a half years ago, we began this business-process re-engineering project, leveraging IT to take cost out of our system."
IT spending at Rexam has jumped from approximately $9 million to current spending of the same baseline plus an additional $23 million this year and next for projects tied to process re-engineering, Martin says.
