Dr. Paul Farrier, director of health services at Virginia Tech's Schiffert Health Center, said his staff is working a little harder than normal this exam season because of the recent influenza outbreak.Farrier said there is a general belief among many in medicine that people are more susceptible to sickness during times of high stress. Farrier
would give the same advice to students as he
would to anyone trying to avoid contracting the flu: Wash your hands frequently and then keep them away from your face, nose and mouth; drink plenty of nonalcoholic fluids; and get plenty of rest.
The latter, Farrier
said, is the always the challenge for students this week.
