Schatvet, and his students, including Paul Curtin, spent many years training with Professor Cerio and eventually in 1990 received his 5th Degree (Godan) black belt in Nick Cerio's Kenpo.Paul Curtin has been training in martial arts for over 28 years and has excelled in every style he has undertaken.Curtin began studying martial arts as a child and learned the basic of karate. In the mid 80's Curtin began training with Sensei Steve Schatvet in Shotokan/ Kenpo/ Jiu-Jitsu in Mansfield, MA and earned his 1st Degree (Shodan) black belt in 1988.Along with Steve Schatvet, Paul Curtin attended classes with Professor Nick Cerio in Warwick, RI and attended seminars, camps, and retreats taught by Professor Cerio.Curtin received his 1st Degree (Shodan) black belt in 1988 in Nick Cerio's Kenpo.In 1989 Paul Curtin began his own school Eclectic Karate and founded the Academy of Universal Arts (AUA) in 1990.In 2000, Paul Curtin received his 6th Degree (Rokudan) black belt in Analytical Combat under Professor Thomas Sotis.In 2001, Paul Curtin received his 6th Degree (Rokudan) black belt in Shotokan/ Kenpo/ Jiu-Jitsu under Shihan Steve Schatvet.

As time went on Steve Schatvet along with many of his top students Vinnie Guerrini, Mike Hebert, Marshall Wolff, and Paul Curtin began studying under Professor Nick Cerio of Nick Cerio's Kenpo.
