Dr. Alfieri graduated from the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis MD, in June 1969.
completed Navy flight training in November 1970 and was designated a naval aviator.
first operational assignment was with Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Two
(HS-2) in San Diego, CA.
The squadron was deployed to Southeast Asia aboard USS Enterprise (CVAN-65).
Subsequently, he was transferred to the Naval Recruiting District, Raleigh NC, where he directed naval officer programs for 2 years.
was then selected as an Aeronautical Engineering Duty Officer (AEDO) and transferred to the Naval Postgraduate School
, Monterey CA.
He earned a masters degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 1976.
next operational assignment was with the Commander, Operational Test and Evaluation Force, Norfolk VA.
He was an operational test director and managed R&D projects for all Navy ASW aircraft in AIRTEVRON One (VX-1), Patuxent River MD.
His next assignment was at the U. S. Naval Academy, where he was an Associate Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department for 3 years.
While at the Naval Academy
completed requirements for a master's degree from The George Washington University in Business Management in 1981.
Later he was assigned to the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), Washington DC, where he was the Flight Clearance Officer for 3 years.
Subsequently, he served as Deputy Program Manager for the HARM missile system for 2 years and class desk officer for land-based/training aircraft for 2 years.
completed the Program Managers Course (PMC) at the Defense Systems Management College
, Fort Belvoir VA, after which he
was transferred to the Navy Staff in the Pentagon.
Dr. Alfieri served as a development coordinator on the Chief of Naval Operations Staff, OP-098, responsible for Research, Development, Test & Evaluation of Navy Tactical Aviation (TACAIR) Systems.
After this assignment, he
returned to NAVAIR as the Program Manager for the F404 Engine
(F/A-18 aircraft) in his
last tour of duty with the Navy.
Since leaving the Navy, Dr. Alfieri worked 4 years as an engineering/management consultant for the fighter/attack class desk in the Systems and Engineering group at NAVAIR.
In 1991 he joined the faculty at the Defense Systems Management College, Fort Belvoir VA.
He has served as a Course Director and Course Manager for various T&E courses and as Department Chairman for the Test & Evaluatiuon Department.
Dr. Alfieri is currently the Program Director for Faculty Policy at the Defense Acquisition University.
In 1998 Dr. Alfieri completed studies for his doctorate at Virginia Tech earning an EdD degree, and in 2002 he graduated from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces with a masters degree in National Security Affairs.
