Patrick Hefflin, a superintendent at Greenville Area School District, filed a complaint in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania alleging she was passed over for the position because of her race and gender.
alleges that Bodnovich, during a conversation with the superintendent search committee, wondered whether the district was "ready for a black woman."
According to the settlement, the school district agreed to pay the amount, in two installments of $75,000, for "emotional distress" Hefflin
suffered as a result.
The agreement states that the settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing or racism on the part of the school district, but the district wanted to avoid the cost, risk and distraction of litigation.
The district's insurance carrier, Ohio Casualty Co.
, paid a majority of the settlement, with Trinity obligated to contribute $5,000.
is responsible for paying her
own legal costs.
