When Patricia Buiocchi, BSN, joined Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital Network, she was surprised to find liaison clinicians spending most of their day doing data-entry work as part of pre-admission screening.
One of Buiocchi's first moves as vice president of business development and strategic planning was to turn to Curaspan Health Group
Having previously experienced the benefits of its Web-based referral-management software, she
knew the return for Northeast Rehab
would be quick.
In 12 months, referrals jumped 15 percent.
"It used to take our liaisons two hours to input information for each incoming patient," says Buiocchi
, whose team handles referrals for two acute hospitals (with a third on its way), 23 outpatient facilities and a home-care service in southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts.
But, says Buiocchi
, the Curaspan ReferralCentral application has helped simplify the process with its intuitive user interface, comprehensive view of key patient information and secure, real-time communication capabilities with referring facilities.
"With our population, we have patients who have multiple hospital stays, and we may need to know of one or more events that have happened," explains Buiocchi
"Now, when a referral comes across we can just securely communicate our specific questions that would have taken hours with phone calls and faxes."
delivering relevant data and documents pulled from medical records in a complete, legible referral package, liaisons work more efficiently.
And that leads to more bookings.
"It's all about quickness and visibility," says Buiocchi
"We have competition, and we're all waiting for referrals.
But we have an edge."
"We've improved our relationships with hospitals because of the accuracy of bed availability and how quickly we respond,"
