So far, the community health nurse, Pat Lenci
, has been directing their energy and focusing on the high school students. To date she
has met with the grade 8, 10, and 11 classes to speak about healthy lifestyle modification and chronic disease prevention.
These students have received a presentation on Central Coast statistics on the high incidents of death from preventable chronic diseases.
...Pat Lenci, our Public Health Nurse, has developed a Bella Coola Tobacco Reduction Strategy, which she adapted from a compendium of other VCH initiatives.
When asked what they thought other key lifestyle factors were that lead to chronic disease problems, they chose stress and dietary factors as the main lifestyle factors.
They will be given a task of identifying personal goals in one; two, or three areas that will help them live a healthier lifestyle.Pat
will then introduce the concept of Fit-fest to them and suggest they use it as a vehicle they can use to change their lifestyle. She
will also spent time with the students looking at policy development within the school as a means of promoting a healthier lifestyle in the school.
