With elements of the new game drawing on the tradition of ground hurling in the GAA, Pat Daly, director of Gaelic Games at Croke Park, has outlined his hopes that a return to this aspect of the game, in combination with the sport of shinty, will help broaden the appeal of the sports beyond their traditional Gaelic heartlands.
"Ground hurling was a big part of the game in Ireland right up to the 1980s and 1990s but is pretty redundant now," he said.
