Pat Brennan, Environmental Reporter, Orange County Register The Register's environmental writer explores the relationships that exist between nature and civilization in his weekly series "Edge of Nature." Although there is often a clash of ideals between environmentalists and development, the BIA/OC commends Brennan for his balanced coverage of issues relating to the local homebuilding industry and how they affect the environment. Searching through archived stories, in May 2002, Brennan covered the Orange County Planning Commission consideration of a new plan for 388 homes on the upper mesa at Bolsa Chica. In April 2002, he wrote about the first tours beginning on the Irvine Company's 11,000-acre North Ranch. In November 2001, he wrote about Orange County's sewage possibly being shifted to the City of Corona where it could be used to process sludge into fertilizer. In June 1999, Brennan wrote about trout complicating work on the Toll Road and ear bone chemicals key in identifying steelhead (an endangered species discovered in San Mateo Creek).
