Head of Renewable Energy Unit (IEA)
Paolo Frankl is the head of the renewable energy unit at the International Energy Agency.
is an inter-governmental organisation that acts as energy policy advisor to 28 member countries in their effort to ensure reliable, affordable and clean energy for their citizens.
Paolo serves as secretary to the IEA working party on renewable energy technologies.
He is also currently a member of the Advisory Group to the European Commission for the FP7 Theme on Environment and Climate Change.
Previous to joining the IEA, Paolo worked in academia as assistant professor and in a private research and consulting institute in Italy as senior analyst and manager, focusing on renewable energy, life cycle assessment and eco-labelling.
From 2000 to 2002, Paolo served as advisor to the director-general of the Italian Ministry for the Environment.
Former titles include president of the Guarantee Committee of the Label 100% Green Energy
(Italian renewable electricity label) and head of the Task Force on Communication
of Life Cycle information -UNEP/SETAC Life Cycle Initiative.
Paolo is a physicist by training.
