According to Pam McInnis, Warren County's director of elementary education and instructional support, there have always been a significant number of home-school families in the county.
"As of Sept. 30, we reported to the state that we have 138 regular home-schoolers.That's pretty high, but we also have 99 students receiving religious exemptions," she
In order to be granted home schooling status, applicants must meet one of four requirements: the teaching parent must have a baccalaureate degree or; must have a teaching license or be eligible for such a license from the Board of Education, or; the student must enroll in an approved correspondence school (Seton Home Study School for grades K-12 in Front Royal), or; the parent may submit a curriculum to the district's superintendent for approval.
The curriculum is not immune to the Virginia Standards of Learning guidelines, however.
In spite of the introduction of this bill, Katzen said he
