About Us | SEL for Prevention

Our programs were created by Pamela Goldberg, a Child Therapist and former Critical Care Nurse with a passion for prevention.
Pamela M. Goldberg, BSN, MS, LMFT Pamela Goldberg began her career as an emergency room nurse in 1977 on the south side of Chicago in the neighborhood where she grew up. Her neighborhood was no stranger to tragedy. Teenagers, too eager to take risks, would suffer horrible consequences. In those early years, Pam provided support, encouragement, resources, and education to multitudes of distraught family members and friends left to pick up the pieces. She worked tirelessly in hospital critical care units connecting with her patients and their families on a personal level. gldberg1 In 1980, Pam earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Lewis University. With a deep appreciation for the needs of children and families, she went on to receive a Master of Science from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Pam's greatest professional fulfillment has come through her work as a therapist, listening to the stories of children and teens and understanding how their minds' operate. Pam's work with children and families came naturally as she helped children develop the tools that gave them solutions to dealing with life issues. With absolute delight, she watched children bounce back from challenges and become stronger than ever, filled with self-confidence and self-esteem. As an extension of her group counseling practice, in 1996 Pam established Camp MakeBelieve, a pioneering social and emotional learning after-school program. Through in-depth consultation with other pioneers in the field of social and emotional learning, Pam transformed the Camp MakeBelieve Kids after-school program into an 8-Step curriculum in 2008. She developed the STEP UP program for middle school-aged children in 2013. In 2016, she updated the original Camp MakeBelieve program and created a digital curriculum for upper elementary school children. Pam currently resides in the Las Vegas, NV area, where she runs a private counseling practice and continuously participates in furthering the research and development of her programs. In her free time, she practices yoga, enjoys her family and travels with her supportive husband, a talented emergency room physician.

"I have had the extraordinary privilege of working with Pam Goldberg's Social Emotional Tier 2 programs for two different sets of students. One is "Camp Make Believe" for the Elementary level and for the Middle School level there is a more graduated program aptly named, "STEP UP". The program is impressive in its coverage of material, ease of use, research applied specifically to Goldberg's specific programs, and the training materials for teachers. It is rare that I will write an endorsement; however, I think that the two programs are phenomenal that she has assembled and would not hesitate to recommend them."Lisa Bartoli

Pamela M. Goldberg, BSN, M.S., Licensed Family and Marriage Therapist
Pamela Goldberg has a busy private counseling practice focusing on children and adolescents in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pamela received her Master of Science Degree (1996) from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas specializing in Marriage and Family Therapy. Prior, she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Lewis University in Lockport, Illinois. She was the youngest in her graduating class at Little Company of Mary Hospital Nursing School where she won the award for Dedication and Perseverance. She practiced as a critical care nurse for over 10 years before turning her focus to child, marriage and family issues. A resilient child from the south side of Chicago, Pamela Goldberg spent her childhood engaged in outdoor activities and sports-with her 11 brothers and sisters as team members. Pam and her husband (ER physician) have successfully raised 3 sons in a modern day blended family. Pamela's education and life experiences culminated in the creation of a program that would make a difference in the lives of many children, Camp MakeBelieve. Through her Camp MakeBelieve Kids After-School Program, Pamela has developed a multitude of unique inter-locking educational tools that help children to learn life lessons while using their imaginations and having fun. Her original characters, stories, workbooks, musical play, songs, guided imagery, games, posters, strategies and hands-on activities are all geared at building emotionally competent kids. She is actively involved in research that studies the effects of social and emotional learning with elementary and middle school children. Her goal is to build self-confidence in kids and prepare them with tools so they can deal effectively with stress and challenges of life. As a former nurse, she is strongly devoted to prevention of physical and mental disease as the key to a long and healthy life. Pamela also presents at national professional conferences focusing on youth suicide prevention through social and emotional learning. "I feel honored to have worked with Pam on many of the stories and workbooks used as Teaching Tools in the CMB 8 Step After School Program. But beyond all that, the upbeat personalities of Pam and Claudia turned my "work" project into a "fun" project. I look forward to working with them again in the future! It was a blast working in the studio with Pam and Demo Dave, trying to keep serious, while recording these whacky characters as they got into mischief and on and off their emotional roller coasters.
