will provide an update on how Providers and Hospitals are preparing for the transitions of care requirements as part of MU2 compliance, how they can leverage an HIE and how they are preparing for future audit requirements.
Pam Matthews Bio:
Pam Matthews, RN, MBA, CPHIMS, LFHIMSS, serves as the Senior Director, Informatics for the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).
She directs the Society's initiatives related to health information exchange, interoperability and standards activities with convening communities at the state, regional and local levels.
In this role, Ms. Matthews
supports the Healthcare Information Exchange (HIE) and the Interoperability & Standards
(I & S) Committees and all related content activities including supporting one electronic monthly newsletter, the HIE nonprofit organizational membership, the HIMSS HIE Community, four online toolkits, educational programming and external public and private collaborations.
She served from 2006 to 2009 on the project team for AHIMA's Foundation State Level Health Information Exchange project funded by HHS - ONC.
She was previously a member of the State of Georgia Healthcare Information Technology and Transparency Advisory Board representing health information exchange.
In addition, Ms Matthews served as a member of the Advisory Board for the 2011 BluePrint Technology Innovation Series which is focused on promotion of HIT innovation across providers and technology firms.
When she joined HIMSS in 2006, she launched both the Financial Systems and the Health Information Exchange content area and spear headed HIMSS focused with ICD10 initiatives.
Prior to joining HIMSS in 2006, Ms. Matthews served five years in the role of CIO of a national private healthcare provider.
has over twenty five years experience in health care with the last fifteen in information systems.
Prior to serving in role of CIO, Ms. Matthews worked for KPMG Peat Marwick and Superior Consultant Company focused on healthcare information technology (IT), strategic planning, system selections, IT operations and governance.
Additional work areas in both firms included clinical informatics, electronic health records, clinical outcomes as well as business strategy work for venture capitalist clients.
Prior to consulting, Ms. Matthews worked for several healthcare providers in IT leading clinical initiatives and IT operations including a major academic medical university in the southeast.
Ms. Matthews is a Registered Nurse with a bachelor in Industrial Engineering and a Masters in Business Administration.
She is a Life Fellow of HIMSS and has served in various capacities within HIMSS including HIMSS Vice Chair, HIMSS Board of Directors, HIMSS Foundation Chair and various other HIMSS volunteer workgroups.
