Paco Gomes, a recognized dancer, choreographer, musician and teacher from Bahia, Brazil, has studied folkloric and religious dances since his childhood.
Dance Company, Paco Gomes
and Dancers founded in 2004, has performed in various venues throughout the Bay Area and Bahia, Brazil.
In 2007 he
was nominated for the Choreography Award for the Bay Area Dance Awards with 'The Red Scarf', a work choreographed by Paco Gomes
and performed by his
dance company Paco Gomes
Paco gomes is known for his
ability to infuse the dynamic, multifaceted potential of modern dance with Afro-Brazilian folkloric dance, more specifically, the religious movements of the Orixa dances, the athleticism of Capoiera, and the folkloric working dances from slavery.
With this unique blend of influences Paco Gomes
practices storytelling primarily through the myths and legends of the Candomble religion of Brazil.
visionary works create a bridge both between dance as 'high art' and dance as a rich cultural heritage and between people everywhere.
2 day intensive (10 hours of training) Paco
introduce to us his
technique of what he
describes as Brazilian Contemporary Dance.
Using polyrhythmic African traditional and modern world music, Paco Gomes'
class is fluid and energetic.
