Ontario S. Wooden, 34, dean of the University College at NCCU, was arrested Sept. 28 and released the same day under a $2,000 bond. Woodens attorney, Butch Williams, said Wooden would plead not guilty. Wooden was hired by NCCU in 2008 as an associate dean of University College and was named dean last year. The college provides academic advising and support to students in their first two years at NCCU, in an effort to improve retention and graduation rates. Wooden, whose salary is listed in a UNC database as $105,000, has a bachelors degree from Albany State University in Georgia, as well as a masters and Ph.D. in higher education administration from Indiana University.

Ontario S. Wooden Dr. Ontario S. Wooden is Director of the Velma Fudge Grant Honors Program and Academic Success Initiatives and Assistant Professor of Education at Albany State University. Ontario earned a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from Albany State University. Upon graduation from ASU, he completed a master's degree in Higher Education Administration, a post-master's certificate in Institutional Research, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration with a minor in African American Studies, all from Indiana University. He is a member of the National Collegiate Honors Council, Association for the Study of Higher Education, and the American Educational Research Association among many other organizations. Ontario also currently serves on the editorial board of Scientific Journals International and the National Association of Student Affairs Professionals Journal. He currently sits on the board of Communities in Schools of Albany, Dougherty County; Girls, Incorporated; and the 4-H Advisory Council.
