In 2005, Notah Begay III (Navajo/San Felipe/Isleta Pueblos) a 4-time PGA TOUR winner and current NBC Sports/Golf Channel Analyst, established the Notah Begay III Foundation (NB3 Foundation), a 501©3 non-profit organization that works to address the profound health and wellness issues impacting Native American children.
The Board of Directors is comprised of the founder, Notah Begay III, along with business leaders, fellow-athletes and health professionals. This unique cross-section of individuals is devoted to leading the Notah Begay III Foundation in a way that stays true to the mission of helping prevent type 2 diabetes and childhood obesity among Native children while ensuring that progress and growth within the organization is continuous in order to serve as many Native children and families as possible. Member of the 1994 national championship team. 3rd team All-American 1992, 1st team All-American 1994. 1st team all Pac-10 conference in 1992 & 1994. Member of a Walker Cup team. Member of the PGA tour for many years since graduating. Notah has actively worked to benefit Native American causes since he graduated from Stanford as you can follow at his website. The 1995 team photo below includes from the left Tiger Woods, Notah, Steve Burdick, Will Yanigasawa & Casey Martin. In 2014, Notah was named to the Stanford Athletics Hall of Fame. The following overview of Notah's career was included in his Hall of Fame announcement: Leading his Stanford team to the 1994 national championship as a first team All-American, Begay finished his career with a stroke average of 72.6. A three-time All-American, in 1992, '94 and '95, Begay's career low score of 62 came during the 1994 NCAA championships, finishing one stroke shy of the school record, held by teammate Tiger Woods. A full-blooded Native American, Begay turned pro and collected six victories including four on the PGA Tour while earning a top-20 world ranking. In 1998, he became one of only a handful of golfers to shoot 59 in the second round of the Nike Tour Dominion Open. He was also a member of a U.S. Walker Cup team as well as a U.S. Presidents Cup team that included former Stanford standout Tiger Woods. Currently an analyst with NBC Sports and The Golf Channel, Begay became the first player in a pro tour to putt both right and left-handed. Begay was named one of Golf Magazine's Innovators of the Year in 2009 and has also been named one of the Top 100 Sports Educators in the world by the Institute for International Sport.
