Norman F. Shadle Jr.WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Norman F. "Chub" Shadle Jr., 62, of 121 W. Second St., died Monday, April 15, 2002, at his home.
Born Aug. 2, 1939, in Chambersburg, Pa., he
was the son of the late Norman F. Shadle Sr. and M. Evelyn Peiffer Shadle. He was a 1957 graduate of Chambersburg High School. He
was employed in 1962 delivering fuel oil and then as a service technician for Peiffer Heating Oil
in Waynesboro.He worked as a service technician for PenMar Oil Co. in Waynesboro until January.He
worked part-time flagging at Hagerstown Speedway, and others.In 1974, he
was the head starter at Lincoln Speedway; and in 1977, was head starter for Jack Gunn with KARS circuit at Williams Grove, Selinsgrove and Hagerstown until 1981. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard in Waynesboro. He was a member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chambersburg. He was a member of Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15, William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695, Eagles Club, BPO Elks Lodge 731, Order of the Owls Nest 1073 and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1911, all of Waynesboro.He was a member and past president of Fraternal Order of Eagles 1758 of Waynesboro; a member, past president and board member of Auto Racing Club of Hagerstown; a member of Motor Knights of Chambersburg, York Racing Club, Williams Grove Oldtimers and Chambersburg Fire Co.He was a member and past board member of the National Association of Auto Racing Fan Clubs.
In 1995, he
received the Hagerstown Auto Racing Club Hall of Fame Award.In 1984, he
received the National Association
Appreciation Award and in 1992, the Fan of the Year Award from Wisconsin Fans for Auto Racing. He
is survived by his
wife, Joan M. Toms Shadle, whom he
married Oct. 27, 1973; one brother, Harold A. Shadle of Chambersburg; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro.The Rev. Ron Cook will officiate.Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
