Norah Lovell teaches flamenco at Taos High School.Norah Lovell teaches flamenco at Taos High School.Lovell studied the dance with Miel Castagna, a student of Río-Fernandez who has since moved to Kansas City with her family.Lovell has a degree in fine arts from the University of Chicago, and chairs the Art Department of University of New Mexico-Taos. "It's exciting for the kids; flamenco honors what's different about you, and for the kids it's made a big difference," Lovell said."It's a great thing for the youth in this community, it keeps them engaged in school; they won me over."Lovell is in her second teaching year.Her student, Joeanna Martínez, helps her with the incoming students."Taos is a gypsy culture, and it also identifies strongly with Spain," Lovell said.
