In addition to managing all of Amex Canada's legal affairs and her continued regulatory and commercial practice, her achievements include: revitalizing the legal department, preparing Amex Canada's first corporate governance policy and developing and implementing a corporate governance training program for the Board of Directors and senior executives.Prior to her work at Amex Canada, Nora spent 15 years at CIBC assuming various roles of increasing responsibility, including Senior Counsel Electronic Banking.
During that time CIBC
led the retail banking industry by developing and launching Canada's first white label banking services, President's Choice Financial Services and BizSmart small business banking services.Nora
worked with senior management at CIBC
in developing, negotiating drafting and launching these service relationships and had legal oversight for all aspects of the ongoing businesses, including web site and marketing review.Nora's experience at CIBC
also includes many years advising both the credit card and merchant services businesses and includes the development and launch of CIBC's point of sale services, the Merchant's
Edge program and several affinity credit cards.Among other achievements she
developed an innovative legal opinion leading to a strategic alliance providing for the sale of wireless airtime through CIBC
's ATMs, then managed all legal issues relating to the negotiation of the alliance, including settlement of all intellectual property issues, negotiations with Interac and marketing and advertising of the service.She
also acted as counsel to CIBC
's wholly owned insurance companies and has delivered papers to the industry on the promotion of insurance by banks and trust companies under the Insurance Business Regulations. Nora
has an established, well-respected banking and financial services regulatory practice at both the federal and provincial level and has acted as legal advisor for the establishment and launch of several financial institutions, including a US national bank, a Canadian Schedule 1 bank and organizer of three Canadian bank-owned insurance companies.Nora
has drafted and worked with a variety of commercial and technology agreements, including strategic alliance and other marketing agreements, outsourcing agreements, web development linking and hosting agreements, software development and consulting agreements, and a whole range of other technology and intellectual property agreements.Nora holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto and is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School.She was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1986 and is a member of the Canadian Bar Association.Nora
is currently expanding her
business knowledge and acumen by completing the Canadian Securities Course. Nora is past president of the Madawaska Club, and director the Georgian Bay Association.
