When the students arrived, villagers were somber, said Professor Nihal Perera, director of CapAsia, a program sponsored by Ball State's College of Architecture and Planning.Perera grew up in Sri Lanka.
Students played volleyball with the children and created an outdoor play area with floor mats, cloth and little dishes for paints and watercolors they had brought.
"They connected with these people," Perera said.
