The International Rugby Board (IRB) are not prepared to sanction the proposed new competition, while Saracens chairman Nigel Wray has this week responded with the threat of court action should the game’s governing body attempt to block the formation of the tournament.
Speaking in the Rugby Paper, the Sarries supremo said IRB
chief executive Brett Gosper’s stance
against an Anglo-French contest is “anti-competitive under European Law.â€
The other European nations have been invited to join the breakaway while Wray
also said that he
expects South African franchises will one day end up splitting from Australian and New Zealand clubs in the Super 15 to join the proposed competition.
