Nick Peterson - Dancer, Instructor
Nick Peterson is the creator of Swing U, the ongoing Thursday evening Swing series at Ballroom Addiction. His classes are designed as monthly sets of instruction, building technique on a given subject through each month. Nick has an ability to teach technique and build beginner dancers up with a solid foundation that allows for fluid dancing with improvisational ability in fully communicative lead-follow dancing. He also offers private lessons for dancers at all levels from beginners to social dancers, as well as those who want to compete. Nick Peterson is a Swing dancer extraordinaire who lives, eats, and breathes the period swing genres of Lindy, Charleston, Balboa, and Shag. He is currently a student of history at UNLV, and Nick applies this academic interest to dance while studying the technique and history of many dance genres. Nick is a 1st-place winner at the National Jitterbug Championships (Camp Hollywood). He is the most influential force in the Las Vegas Swing community, sponsoring visiting top level professionals who conduct workshops in Las Vegas. Nick travels widely in the ongoing effort to hone his craft, encouraging all Swing dancers to do likewise. Nick Peterson's passion for Swing results in truly ingenious analysis and instruction of dance movement, in both leading and following.

Nick Peterson
Nick has been dancing since he was only a senior in high school. Originally, he studied Lindyhop and its related dances with some of the best in the world. In 2002, he won the "Showtime Not At The Apollo" division of the "American LindyHop Championships". In 2006, he and current partner Brandy Little, took 1st place in the "Jitterbug Contest" at the "National Jitterbug Championships". He is also the 2008 recipient of the ""Golden Budgee" Award" for contributions to Jitterbug. Nick has been teaching in Las Vegas and all over the country, including at the largest North American dance camp, "Camp Hollywood", for the last 8 years. Between 2003 & 2006, he was the Swing Dance Instructor for the "University of Nevada - Las Vegas (UNLV)". Nick has performed for some of the countries biggest swing bands and celebrities, including: Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Brian Setzer, Royal Crown Revue, Hugh Hefner & Playboy, Cisco Systems, Budweiser, and just about every major casino in town. Dean started dancing in 2005 and was first taught by Nick Peterson. Since then, he has primarily studied Lindyhop under some of the most accomplished lindyhoppers. He has a deep passion for the history of swing dancing, the music and the movement. He believes in the connection between a lead and follow, and that all movements stem from that connection. He teaches with a fun energy but with emphasis on the development of connection within the lead and follow. Nick Peterson Dean Curtis

Nick Peterson - creator of the Underground Jitterbug Championship.
But, for me, my favorite moment of Camp Hollywood was the Underground Jitterbug Championship (UJC). This is a non-Camp Hollywood sanctioned contest that was created by Las Vegas' own Nick Peterson during Camp Hollywood 2008. There are few (if any) that represent the Jitterbug spirit more than Nick Peterson and he wanted to have a contest that was for the people by the people. No judges, No scores, No rules. As Nick introduced the contestants and the contest, the anticipation grew. Congratulation to Nick Peterson of Las Vegas. Elected to the 2009 Camp Hollywood Hall of Fame Camp Hollywood is one the largest annual swing dance camps. Over the past 11 years, it has become a main-stay in hundreds of swing dancers annual plans; professional and amateur alike. It's place and contribution to the swing dance world has been tremendous. Nick Peterson of Las Vegas, creator of the Underground Jitterbug Contest. Las Vegas's very own National Swing Dancing Champion, Nick Peterson has been elected to this year's Camp Hollywood Hall of Fame. This wonderful selection only takes place every two years. For those of you who go to the camp on a regular basis, you know that Nick has become a staple part of the Camp Hollywood "experience". He is recognized on a national level as an accomplished swing dancer. He is constantly an invited guest to many national swing dance events. I've never met anyone who has a bigger love and knowledge of swing dancing than Nick. Dancing was not apart of my life until the fall semester of 2005 when I took his Lindyhop class at UNLV. Since then, dancing has become the biggest part of my life. I wouldn't know who I would be or what I would be doing were it not for dancing. And, the biggest contributor to dancing in my life is Nick. The dance community of Las Vegas has mixed feelings towards Nick. Some admire him and others do not. The important thing to remember is Nick is about progression. Everyone should dance to the best of their ability and challenge themselves to be better swing dancers and dancers in general. If you truly appreciate dance then you will appreciate Nick. He is about passion for all movement. Few can match the passion of Nick Peterson of Las Vegas. Passion. Nick Peterson of Las Vegas brings the spirit of the Jitterbug everywhere he goes. Spirit. The Jitterbug Spirit. I can’t describe what it is, but I can tell you to watch Hellzapoppin’, watch Jeremy Otth, or watch Nick in the CH Jitterbug Contest and you will know exactly what I mean. Nick has been fighting for Hilary’s Golden Bugie award since it first surfaced. Whether it be calling out dancers to lay it out on the floor, throwing down an Applejax box during a contest, being Tokyo’s number one fan, or pulling out WWE wrestling moves in the jitterbug contest. She finally had no choice when he hosted the first ever Underground Jitterbug Championships. He’s been a student, a competitor, a teacher, a judge, a promoter, a role model, an inspiration, a friend, and now a member of the Hilary Alexander’s Camp Hollywood Hall of Fame. Here are some interesting facts and memories about Nick: - Unlike other Nicks, he has never dropped his partner in a competition - Judging an Amateur Jack-n-Jill while holding a beer in one hand - He did a jaw dropping unforgettable performance in a solo charleston contest in 2008. Along with the election to the Camp Hollywood Hall of Fame, Nick receives a free pass to Camp Hollywood for life. Read more about Nick Peterson.
