Nick Illsley, Chief Executive, Transport Direct
spent 26 years as a career railwayman having joined British Rail
from School in 1976.
In this period he
held a number of posts, initially in local operational management in both the freight and passenger sectors, and for the last 17 years in the South East.
In this period he dealt with Strategic Planning, Investment, Planning and Marketing, culminating in the post of Commercial Director with Thames Trains.
During this period the industry went through the privatisation process and Nick
became part of the Board for the newly privatised Thames Trains company
For his last three years in the rail industry Nick held the position of Chief Executive at National Rail Enquiries, a period in which NRES went from being the only part of the industry subject to regulatory enforcement to being voted Rail Business of the Year for 2001.
In 2002, Nick left the rail industry to become Chief Executive at Transport Direct.
