...Nicholas BelkinNicholas Belkin has been Professor of Information Science in the School of Communication, Information and Library Studies at Rutgers University since 1985.Prior to this appointment he was Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Information Science at The City University, London. Nick is currently Chair of the Department of Library and Information Science at Rutgers, and was previously the Director of the Ph.D. Program in Communication, Information and Library Studies there.He has held visiting positions at the University of Western Ontario, the Free University Berlin, the Integrated Publication and Information Systems Institute of the German National Research Center for Computer Science, the Institute of Systems Science of the National University of Singapore, and as a Fulbright Fellow at the Department of Information Studies, University of Tampere, Finland.He holds the Ph.D. in Information Studies from the University of London, and the MLS and BA from the University of Washington. Nick has been a member of ASIS&T since 1970, and recently a member of its Program Advisory Board.He
is a recipient of the ASIS&T
Outstanding Information Science Teacher Award (1990) and the ASIS&T Research Award (1997).In 1986 he
and Alina Vickery received Honorable Mention for the ASIS&T
Best Information Science Book Award.From 1995 to 1999, Nick was Chair of the ACM Special Interest Group in Information Retrieval (SIGIR).
