Neil Kruse, a sixth-grade teacher at Centennial School, has been with the program for 30 years, while his brother Al Kruse, who is currently running for the Minnesota House of Representatives, has been a counselor at Boys State for six.

One of those runners was Neil Kruse, a 1979 alumnus who is a sixth-grade math teacher in the Centennial School District.
He is in his 23rd year as that school's boys' and girls' cross country coach. Kruse participated in cross country and track and field at SMSU. He ran the distance events. "Then came the bus," recalled Kruse, grateful even today for that extra leg room. Kruse had stamina. How else do you explain, for instance, running the 6 mile, the steeplechase and the 3-mile at a conference meet in Bemidji? He remembers morning runs over the hills at Camden State Park. "Harry had his pipe smoking and always had jokes to share," said Kruse.
