Naveen Dissanayake - the new Sports and Tourism Minister
Born on 9th September 1969, Naveen Dissanayake studied at STC Preparatory school and at Royal College, Colombo. Naveen Dissanayake, developed his fine stature and personality on the playing fields of STC Prep and Royal College. In 1980, Naveen Dissanayake joined Royal College, Colombo and was a member of under 13 team. Naveen, the right hander scored a brilliant century (134). He played for Lionel Mendis' NCC School of Cricket. My son Bhagya Epasinghe who is domiciled in Australia as an Accountant and (STC-MTL) and Naveen Dissanayake (Royal) learned their basics under Lionel Mendis and excelled for their respective schools later. The young dynamic personality, new Sports and Tourism Minister Naveen Dissanayake who is a graduate at the Sussex University obtained his Arts as well as Law Degrees. From July 1992 to September 1993, he followed a bar Vocational course at Holborn College, London and was called to Bar of England and Wales by Middle Temple. After returning to Sri Lanka in January 1995, he joined the Sri Lanka Law College, Colombo and passed out as an Attorney-at-Law. When Naveen Dissanayake was studying in Melbourne, Australia, he represented Melbourne Grammer School and when he was in England he played for the University of Sussex. Naveen Dissanayake had the proud distinction of doing his legal work under eminent legal luminaries like S A Parathalingam PC, I S De Silva PC and K Kanag Iswaran. He gained knowledge in maters and experience in drafting papers, civil procedure, negotiations and advocacy. After the untimely death of his "Appachi" - father, the grateful people of Nuwara Eliya District requested Naveen to enter politics. He obliged.
