Stockton CA (May 11) - Nathan Tucker
, the 2001 SRL Wild West Shootout champion proved tonight that not only he
is ready to contend for back to back titles, but also his
championship winning crew.
"During practice, we had a valve spring break in our engine," said Tucker
"Fortunately, Ray Lawson Jr. had a spare one and he
was nice enough to let us use it."
After Tucker's team found and fixed the problem he
went on to avoid every accident in the main event and bring his
car home almost completely intact.
A brief lead by John Gaalswyk was ended when Tucker
made his move when the race was restarted on lap after then leader Zampa spun out in turn two.
"John [Gaalswyk] held his line on the first lap of the restart, but on the second lap, I was able to get by him on the outside and out-position him going into turn one," said Tucker
PETTIT ROLL CONTINUES AT STOCKTON
A second yellow fell on lap-six as Sonora pilot Nathan Tucker and defending Stockton Late Model champion John Gaalswyk of Ripon tangled in turn four with Tucker spinning and going down a lap to the leaders.
GAALSWYK GRABS TRI-TRACK LEADERSHIP
Nathan Tucker of Sonoma was the initial leader of the 100-lap affair that saw 10 yellow flags and took nearly 90 minutes to complete.
Another five car melee occurred on lap-32 with Tucker
regaining the lead.
held firm to a 40th lap yellow for a solo spin by Scott Masellis of Modesto.

The race itself was a dandy as rookie Nathan Tucker of Sonora was the pole sitter, but was beaten to the first-lap lead by two-time track champion Ron Strmiska, Sr. of Manteca.
The next several laps saw the three run as though they were hooked together with Terpstra constantly putting his nose on the inside quarter panel of Tucker
before finally succeeding on lap-25.
The new leader survived a late race yellow on lap-28 to post his initial triumph ahead of Belletto, who earlier won the trophy dash, Tucker
, Greg Potts of Manteca and Ripon's John Gaalswyk.
