He rejoined the Firm in January 2016 after spending 6 years with a major mining company where he last served as Vice President and General Counsel for the Americas region.
practice focuses on complex litigation, environmental and natural resource law and litigation, internal investigations, and regulatory compliance matters.
He also provides corporate advice and counsel on domestic and international projects and is available to provide contract general counsel services on an ongoing basis.
has successfully represented clients in high stakes environmental, natural resource and toxic tort lawsuits, including claims filed under CERCLA
, RCRA, the Clean Water Act, and similar state laws.
He has substantial experience interfacing with the United States Environmental Protection Agency, state agencies and private parties to proactively, creatively, and cost-effectively manage potential liabilities.
has successfully managed and litigated a wide-range of disputes on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants, including cases involving trade secrets, covenants not to compete, officer and director liability, insurance coverage issues and allegations of negligence, fraud, misrepresentation, and breach of contract.
has extensive experience with jury trials, bench trials and in appellate proceedings before state and federal courts, and in arbitrations and mediations.
has broad domestic and international experience in the mining industry.
He served as in-house counsel for a junior exploration company with interests in Canada and Brazil and for a publically traded international gold mining company with operations and exploration interests around the World.
He has provided business and legal advice to senior company management on an ongoing basis and has served on numerous subsidiary-level corporate boards.
has also advised regional and site-level teams, both domestically and internationally, on key legal issues arising out of operations including health, safety, environmental, permitting, land, mineral rights, contracts and employment matters.
has direct and extensive experience managing litigation in foreign countries, negotiating with regulatory agencies, negotiating and drafting key legal agreements, interfacing with joint venture partners, conducting internal investigations and complex dispute resolution.
Mr. Longenecker received his J.D. degree from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1994, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and the San Diego Law Review.
He received his B.A. in Psychology from the Colorado College in 1990.

Mr. Longenecker left the Firm in 2009 and joined Kinross Gold Corporation where he served as Assistant General Counsel, U.S., General Counsel, North America, Vice President and General Counsel for North America and Chile and, most recently, as Vice President and General Counsel, Americas.
is admitted to practice before Colorado state courts, the United States District Court for the District of Colorado and the Ninth and Tenth Circuit Courts of Appeal.
