Nancy Kowal, MS, ANP, was honored with a Nursing In Washington Internship (NIWI), and attended a four-day conference to learn how to influence health care through the legislative and regulatory processes.Kowal, who is a certified adult nurse practitioner in the department of Anesthesia at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, has devoted much of her work to pain management, ambulatory care management, and issues regarding anesthesia and preoperative care.She joined other nurse leaders from around the country in Washington, DC, from Feb. 29 to March 3, where they heard from health policy experts and government officials, networked with other nurses, and visited members of Congress.
