Dr. Myrna Francis
Dr. Myrna Francis, Board Member Dr. Myrna Francis is the VP of Global Healthcare Sector for CGI, an independent information technology and business process services firm. In this role, she is responsible for leading and driving the global business strategy, solution approach and strategic alliances for CGI's operations in US, Canada and Europe. Myrna also served as Interim President and CEO of Canada Health Infoway (CHI) and was responsible for providing leadership and setting the strategic direction during its 'start-up' phase. Key accomplishments include developing and gaining endorsement by all governments for the overall strategy to electronic health record (EHR) investment and the three-year business plan including a new public-private business model. In less than a year, she was able to get regional adoption of common business architecture, initiate standards development and launch more than 50 initiatives across all jurisdictions. Vital to this success was building partnerships and a collaborative approach among the government, public sector and private sector parties across Canada. Myrna has extensive health care and IT industry knowledge and experience in the public and private sectors in Canada and the United States. She has also held executive positions in strategic health policy, population-based health planning, and health promotion at the Government of Ontario. In those positions, Myrna was responsible for re-engineering cancer services and mental health services and designed a managed access system to cardiovascular surgery in the province. On behalf of the government, she negotiated with the Ontario Medical Association and the Ontario Pharmacists' Association. Myrna holds a PhD in medical sciences from McMaster University and has received post-graduate training in business administration. She also completed a program in multi-party negotiation through Harvard University's Law School. Currently, she is a director of Allstate Canada, RxCanada and sits on the advisory committee for Genyous Inc, a biotech company. She was a director of George Brown College Cedara Software during its recent merger with Merge Technology in the US, and an advisor to bSharpe, a health software company.
