One-time Information minister Muhammed Seif Khatib (Uzini) said journalism was a noble profession "where people are required and expected to stick to certain principles and ethics".
"Journalism is a noble profession that demands of anyone joining it to go to school and pursue it. It is not a profession for failures in life," he noted. He, too, called upon media practitioners to consider patriotism first and individual interests much later. The MP also recommended that media houses openly declare their ideological leanings "and even the political camp they sympathize with and which that they would offer support in times of general elections". Khatib said it was unfortunate that some politicians were fond of "buying" some media practitioners into pushing their agenda for them.

Original Union matters had 11 items, says Khatib
The Minister of State in the Vice-President's Office (Union), Mr Muhammed Seif Khatib, told the House that due to the dynamism of the society, 22 union matters were now listed in the First Schedule appended to the Constitution. Minister Khatib said the original items were: the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania; foreign affairs; defence; police; authority on state of emergency; citizenship; immigration; foreign debts and trade; as well as civil service in the Union Government. Mr Khatib stressed that whenever a new item is listed as a union matter, the National Assembly and the Zanzibar House of Representatives must endorse by two-third majority of the legislators by roll-call voting. 3 Comments on "Original Union matters had 11 items, says Khatib" mrfroasty16/06/2010 kwa 11:55 um ·
