TRADE between Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has increased in the last six years from less than US$50 million to over $1 billion, Katanga Province Governor Moses Katumbi has said.
, who called for enhanced trade between the two countries, said there was more to be done to increase trade between Zambia and DRC.
invited more Zambian companies to consider exploring business opportunities in DRC.
"More businesses are welcome in Congo and more Congolese are free to do business in Zambia," he
said progress to connect the two countries from Lubumbashi through Luapula Province with a tarred road had reached an advanced stage with a more than 100 kilometre-stretch worked on so far.
said the DRC government was also working on revamping the rail line to reduce haulage on the road and also minimise congestion and damage to the road infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Mr Katumbi
would not re-contest his
position as governor but would retire from active politics to concentrate on his
business and football team, Tout Puissant (TP) Mazembe.
